Captain America: Civil War Writers Discuss Why These Two Major MCU Characters Didn’t Make It To The Movie

Captain America: Civil War features the largest roster of Marvel characters in any MCU film so far, but apparently, there are two other major MCU characters who were supposed to appear in the film. Those characters are Ant-Man's Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope Pym/Janet Van Dyne (Evangaline Lilly).

The reason behind this is explained by Captain America: Civil War writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus.

The discussed Hank Pym's exclusion in an interview with with Mashable:

[Hank Pym] wasn't as helpful as he needed to be.

In the case of Hope Pym, Markus and McFeely's reason are in line with Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige, who said that the Wasp's introduction into the MCU will be explored better with her own solo film.

It sounds reasonable, considering Ant-Man's appearance in Civil War wasn't that long. Most likely, Hank and Hope's screen time would have been just as short and it would only have been a waste.

Captain America: Civil War is now in theaters.
