Brad Bird: The Incredibles II Isn't a Cash Grab Sequel

Brad Bird's The Incredibles was perfect on its own, and after several years, Pixar has finally decided to release the sequel. Though fans were still happy that this movie was happening, you can't help but hear the word ‘cash grab' when it comes to sequels. Director Brad Bird, however, promises that The Incredibles II will be more than that.

Talking to ScreenRant, Bird explains:

The thing is, many sequels are cash grabs. There's a saying in the business that I can't stand, where they go, [does a funny voice] "You don't make another one, you're leaving money on the table!" Money on the table isn't what makes me get up in the morning. Making something people are gonna enjoy 100 years from now is what gets me up. So, if it were a cash grab, we would not have taken 14 years. It makes no financial sense to wait this long. It's simply we had a story that we wanted to tell.

This should bode well for fans of The Incredibles, seeing that every other Pixar sequel has been some kind of mellow follow-up to its beloved predecessor. Finding Nemo was a great movie, but Finding Dory doesn't even hold a candle to it—don't even get me started on the Cars sequels.

For now, everything is looking good for The Incredibles II. Reception of the trailers have been great, and the story looks pretty interesting. Let's hope Bird and his team have a great follow-up to one of the most beloved superhero movies of all time.

The Incredibles II comes out June 14.
