Blizzard surprised gamers today when it announced Overwatch 2 at this year's BlizzCon. Though the videogame developer didn't announce the platforms in which it's releasing the videogame or the release date, Blizzard did give away exciting new details about the Overwatch sequel together with a cinematic trailer and a gameplay trailer to boot.
In the trailer, gamers get to see the sequel offering new co-op missions, new story missions, PVP content, new hero designs, as well as brand new heroes.
"Overwatch 2 is the globe-spanning sequel to Blizzard Entertainment's acclaimed team-based game, building upon the original's battle-honed foundation and carrying forward everything players have earned into a new era of epic competition and team play,"Blizzard writes in its pitch, "Square off against rivals in PvP modes, and explore the Overwatch universe firsthand in all-new, fully cooperative missions that challenge the world's heroes to team up, power up, and take on an overwhelming outbreak of threats around the globe."
While the new game is going to keep all of the original heroes, modes, and maps from the original Overwatch, it's also going to offer a few new features. This includes a "ton of PvE content" and "a complete story" experience for gamers.
The game features Story Missions and Hero Missions. The first is a mission where players get to take on the roles of Overwatch team members in co-op missions against "rising new threats around the globe." The second, Hero Missions, is a mode that enables players to level up characters and earn customization options that give these characters powerful new abilities.
Overwatch 2 will also include major engine upgrades that will give gamers larger maps for co-op games and new enemies and new factions.
Overwatch 2 has yet to receive a release date but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
