Blade Runner 2 Director Wants To Make A Dune Movie But There's One Problem

Before director Denis Villeneuve started working on Blade Runner 2, he brought us films such as Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario, and the upcoming sci-fi thriller Arrival. He's a talented filmmmaker who's clearly passionate with sci-fi stories, and now, he wants to use his talents to adapt Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi Dune for the big screen. Speaking to Variety, he said:

"I'm always looking for sci-fi material, and it's difficult to find original and strong material that's not just about weaponry. A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt Dune, but it's a long process to get the rights, and I don't think I will succeed."

I think Villeneuve has what it takes to create a great adaptation of Dune, but it doesn't sound optimistic about it. If Blade Runner 2 does well, he might have an opportunity to direct it, but it's too early to tell.

We've seen David Lynch's film adaptation of Dune in 1984, SyFy channel made a mini-series, but it's about time for the franchise to get a better adaptation that will remind us about Dune's greatness. There have been multiple attempts to bring back Dune to the big screen, but they failed. Those came from Pierre Morel (Taken), Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), and Alejandro Jodorwsky.

So would you like to see Villenueve direct Dune?
