Black Widow Solo Movie News Gets The Internet On Its Feet

Word broke out today that Marvel's finally working on a Black Widow movie for Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanova, and it looks like the internet is going wild.

Variety recently announced that Marvel Studios has a Black Widow standalone film in the early stages of development, reporting that Timer director and Blacklist screenwriter Jac Schaeffer is currently working on the script.

According to the publication, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige actually interviewed a number of potential candidates to work on the script of the Black Widow before ultimately choosing Schaeffer. For those who aren't familiar with the screen writer's work, Schaeffer's script for The Shower recently made it on the Black List, the annual listing of best unmade Hollywood screenplays. Featuring the story of an alien invasion happening during a baby shower, the script got the attention of Anne Hathaway who has attached herself to star in the movie.

Though sources say that the Black Widow still hasn't been greenlit, fans are taking the naming of a writer as a good sign, and everyone's celebrating on the internet.

Black Widow fans have been posting all sorts of GIFs and memes on Twitter, celebrating the potential of a Black Widow movie.

Though we're not sure whether Feige will push hard enough for Natasha's standalone, we're really hoping that the film gets green lit and lands a spot before the end of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's only right – Black Widow has been in the Avengers for so long. She deserves her own movie.

Johansson is slated to reprise her role as Black Widow in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018.
