Black Panther Now Close To Overtaking Star Wars: The Last Jedi At Global Box office

It looks like Black Panther's getting closer to moving up the list of the top ten highest grossing movies of all time with the $ 1.3 billion it earned from the global box office.

According to Box Office Mojo, Black Panther has just crossed the $1.3 billion line at the box office, creeping up behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi and its $1.33 billion earnings. Though the Marvel movie is currently drawing closer to the end of its theatrical release, it isn't impossible to imagine Black Panther earning enough to outperform Lucasfilm's latest sequel trilogy installment.

Black Panther's been breaking a lot of records. Not only did the film have the highest ticket pre-sales on Fandango back in January (before Fandango began pre-sales for Avengers: Infinity War), it also managed to score the tenth place in the top ten highest grossing films of all time, overtaking Frozen and its $1.27 billion gross last month.

Of course, Black Panther's success doesn't come as a surprise. The film isn't just T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) first standalone movie, it's also Marvel's first all-black superhero film.

Here's the synopsis for Black Panther:

After the death of his father, T'Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king -- and as Black Panther -- gets tested when he's drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.

Black Panther is currently screening in cinemas.
