There is little doubt that people are already hyped up for the Black Canary movie that will bring back Jurnee Smollett as Dinah Lance. After all, the Lovecraft Country star did an amazing job in Birds of Prey. Interestingly, Smollett was able to play the character in such a powerful way because of amazing advice from none other than Samuel L. Jackson!

Before they became the DC Extended Universe's Black Canary and Marvel Cinematic Universe's Nick Fury, Jurnee Smollett and Samuel L. Jackson co-starred in the 1997 drama Eve's Bayou. So it made sense that Smollett would reach out to Jackson when she nabbed the role of Black Canary in Birds of Prey.

So what did Jackson have to say to Smollett when she asked for his advice? The Spiderhead star revealed to The Hollywood Reporter it was absolutely spot-on.

"... I remember calling [Jackson] and being like, 'OK, so like, yo, what do I do? Is there a way in which I should approach this any differently than how I would approach any other character? I always do so much research of the world.' And he said, 'Baby, just go and piss on your territory,'" Smollett said with a laugh. "So I've been just so truly, truly humbled by the response from the fans."

We're loving this piece of advice from Samuel L. Jackson who absolutely does the same thing with every role he has played. With that in mind, we're glad Jackson imparted it with Jurnee Smollett and we believe she'll totally kill it again in the Black Canary film.

The Black Canary movie will star Smollett and is being written by Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green. For now, the film has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
