Billy Dee Williams On Donald Glover Stepping into his Boots as Lando Calrissian

Is Billy Dee Williams ready to pass on the mantle of Lando Calrissian to Donald Glover, who will play a younger version of Star Wars' charming smuggler in the Han Solo reboot?

Williams was able to get a closer look at his cinematic successor when the younger actor invited him to a "secret lunch." The 69-year-old veteran performer praised Glover as a "very talented young man" who had asked for a meeting probably to get a fuller sense of the iconic character he is now about to play.

In the Hollywood Reporter interview, Williams admits he never saw anyone else essaying the famous part. Glover himself admitted that he didn't think he was "as cool" as Williams. To this, Wlliams replies light-heartedly:

"Well, nobody's as cool as me. That's a tough way to go. No, I'm only joking. Donald is eclectic, I think that's really important particularly for the character of Lando. He is particularly eclectic in the way he approaches his art. When I talked to him I really got the sense of him being a worldly person."

Regardless of Glover's take on Lando in the new Han Solo movie, fans would love to see Williams reprise him in the next installment of the current Star Wars saga. Williams would certaiinly agree. Although he certainly wishes Glover well, he's not yet ready to fly off into the sunset. As he says in the interview:

"But I'm not saying goodbye to that character. It's still very much a part of my life. I created that character."

Many fans would undoubtedly say "Amen."
