Bill Murray Speaks Up On Ghostbusters Reboot, Says “There’s A Lot Of Expectation”

Ever since the first trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot was released, a lot of backlash has ensued, mainly from diehard fans who do not want the movie to be rebooted in the first place. The cast, as well as the team involved in the movie, have defended it since then.

In early May, Feig expressed his thoughts on those "bullies" fueling the hate. Melissa McCarthy gave a visual recently of what she thought of the haters. Producer Judd Apatow compared some haters to Donald Trump supporters. Sony Marketing President Dwight Caines, even cited data in his explanation of how the "people talking" are actually just a "small percentage" of the "people viewing."

Now, it's Bill Murray, one of the lead stars in the original Ghostbusters, who's doing the defending. It's worth noting that the 65-year-old actor has avoided making a third film for years citing how it would ve "really hard to recreate something that was so beautiful, so wonderful."

So what convinced the comedian to support the new Ghostbusters film starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, whilst also agreeing to a cameo?

It's during an appearance of the original as well as new Ghostbusters cast at Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday that Murray gave his comment. Murray revealed that the original cast has seen the new movie, and they completely approve of it.

He added:

It was only because I knew these girls were funny.
When you see the film, and you'll delight in the film, it sort of rumbles along in the beginning. You're going, ‘Oh God, are they going to pull this thing off?
I felt like a stepfather to the whole thing. There is no quit in these girls. This is a tough movie to pull off, because it's a big concept. There's a lot on the plate – there's a lot of expectation. Danny, and I and Annie and Ernie, were just screaming, cheering like we were at a sporting event at the end of it.

Last month, Dan Aykroyd also gave his praises on the Ghostbusters reboot, releasing a statement on his official Facebook account hyping the film and pointing out how awesome it was.

If there's anyone who has any authority criticizing the Ghostbusters reboot, it's probably Aykroyd and Murray.

It's also worth noting that according to The Hollywood Reporter last month, Sony's pre-screening data for the film shows two "recruited screenings" of the movie on May 21 "played through the roof."

Despite all the hate towards the film, I'm willing to give it a fair chance. Aykroyd and Murray have spoken anyway, and I believe them when they say it's worth the watch.

In the end, all that will matter anyway is the film. If it turns out to be pleasing to audiences, then all the backlash wouldn't really matter.

Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15.
