Benedict Wong: Doctor Strange 2 Could Start Filming Next Year

We know that Marvel Studios has already started production on Black Widow, and The Eternals will be next, but we still have no update on the sequel to Doctor Strange. What's good news is, the movie could very well be beginning production by next year.

This comes from Benedict Wong (Wong in the films) who said during an appearance at the Denver Pop Culture Comic-Con (via CBR). Wong explained, "I know they've now got a writer on board who I met at the Endgame premiere. So I think that may be happening sometime next year."

Though it's not a solid confirmation, I guess it does give us an idea of where the film is at right now. Rumor has it that the movie will focus on the Nightmare Dimension, and we'll be getting appearances from characters like Brother Voodoo and Clea.

With Wong being just more than Strange's manservant like in the comics, I'm hoping they give him a more interesting role in the sequel. He's basically the Ned to Strange's Spider-Man, the overweight support who provides comic relief. I don't really expect Wong to have an arc, but it would be interesting to see how his relationship with Strange evolves with the next movie.

No release date has been set for Doctor Strange 2, but with a production date set for next year, we could be getting something by late 2021 or early 2022.

For now, catch Strange and Wong in Avengers: Endgame which is still out in theaters.
