Benedict Cumberbatch is teasing that Season 4 may be end for BBC's Sherlock series, GQ Magazine reports. In an interviews, the actor stated that he wasn't sure where else the show could go after season 4. However, he refused to say anything definitive on the subject, so a continuation is still possible.

""It might be the end of an era," Cumberbatch said of the fourth season. "It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately."

However, he's not saying there's no possibility of continuation. "We never say never on the show. I'd love to revisit it, I'd love to keep revisiting it, I stand by that, but in the immediate future we all have things that we want to crack on with and we've made something very complete as it is, so I think we'll just wait and see."

On the character of Sherlock Holmes, Cumberbatch says, "The idea of never playing him again is really galling."

Despite what Cumberbatch says, Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis previously reported that they've plotted out both Season 4 and season 5 of the show a while back. On the other hand, the possible end of the series may be due to the new obligations of the actors. Cumberbatch is currently booked up for Marvel movies, including the upcoming Doctor Strange.

Sherlock season 4 is expected to be released in 2017.

What do you think of the news? Would you be find with a season 4 finale for Sherlock? Or do you want the show to continue on?
