Batman: The Killing Joke To Hit Theaters With Special Mark Hamill Intro, Here’s When and Where You Can See It

The upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke is arguably the most publicized and most popular animated DC films to date. While DC Comics has had direct-do-DVD animated movie releases since 2007, The Killing Joke is the first R-rated DC Universe Animated Original Movie, a fitting adaptation for writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland's 1988 graphic novel showcasing one of the most iconic stories of The Joker.

For this reason, aside from premiering at San Diego Conic-Con next month, Warner Bros. is bringing the movie to theaters at a limited place and time.

The studio announced today its partnership with Fathom Events to screen Batman: The Killing Joke in theaters ahead of its digital release.

The highly anticipated animated film can now be seen in select theaters across the United States on Monday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. To entice more viewers and fans to see the short movie in theaters, the screening will come with a special introduction from the man who voices The Joker in the movie, Mark Hamill himself! The 64-year-old actor will be featured in a documentary that follows the story of how Hamill was cast to voice the iconic character, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at how Joker's "disturbing" song and dance number in the comic was created for the animated film.

Aside from that, because of the short length of the movie, Warner Bros. included a 15-minute Batgirl-centric prologue to set up Barbara Gordon before Joker makes his move.

I don't think fans need any more reason to see the movie in theaters other than seeing the iconic story come to life, but these extra goodies will definitely entice more people to see the film.

Well, if you're hesitant to see the movie in theaters, the latest Batman: The Killing Joke trailer will likely convince you. Check it out:

Synopsis:

Written by Alan Moore and drawn by Brian Bolland, Batman: The Killing Joke was published in 1988 and is widely considered to be one of the best comic book stories of all time. The graphic novel offers a version of the Joker's origin story and follows as the Clown Prince of Crime terrorizes Commissioner Jim Gordon and ultimate paralyzes his daughter, Barbara Gordon. Although the story was not originally supposed to take place in the regular DC Comics continuity, The Killing Joke wound up setting in motion the events that would lead to Barbara Gordon becoming Oracle.

Tickets for the theatrical release of Batman: The Killing Joke can be purchased starting Friday, June 17 at Fathom Events or specific certain box offices. The movie will be up for digital release on June 18, and it will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on August 2.
