Batman and Harley Quinn Animated Film Will Have a Prequel Comic

In just a month, we'll see just why Batman, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn have teamed up to save the world. DC Comics has a bigger plan of letting us see the story behind why that team-up had to happen, by way of a comic prequel to the animated film.

Screenrant announced the first few details of the comic book, dubbed Harley Quinn and Batman, which will narrate the events prior to the movie. Part of the comics' narrative is to explore why Harley was imprisoned in the Digital First series. Here's a quick synopsis of the prequel:

"It's the team-up we've been dreaming of us as the cute psychopath Harley Quinn joins the brooding Dark knight for a brand-new Digital First comics series, Harley Quinn and Batman. The series, from Batman writer Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burchett, is an exciting new five-chapter prequel adventure to the Batman an Harley Quinn animated film coming out this August from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment."

From the looks of it, Harley will have her own voice and pride. It seems like the Joker's ladylove sees herself as a legend, so when her man decides that she is ultimately the sidekick, she seeks revenge. This means that Harley will try to prove herself a supervillain in her own right--and that's probably why we'll see her behind bars before the animated film begins.

I'd love to see Harley away from the Joker's shadow because she has so much potential. Even the supposed highlight of Suicide Squad, Harley, was still somehow operating with the Joker as a big figure in the background. To see her breakout as her own would be a nice focus.

Batman and Harley Quinn the animated film will be out in select theaters on Aug. 14. The day after, it will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD.
