Avengers: Endgame Writers And Directors Shocked Fans Laughed At Thanos’ Decapitated Head

Avengers: Endgame had quite a number of surprises, including the decapitation of Thanos' (Josh Brolin) head during the opening scene of the film. While the head-cutting was supposed to be a series sequence where fans get to see Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finally inflict the punishment he feels the Mad Titan deserves, some viewers actually chuckled seeing the decapitation.

Endgame writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus couldn't help but notice the response to the scene, saying they didn't quite expect viewers to chuckle at the original Thanos' death. Marvel just recently released the Avengers: Infinity War sequel on Digital HD, and in the director's commentary for the film, the Endgame screenwriters talk about how fans reacted to Thanos' decapitation.

"I was just saying...it is...it...it gets a laugh every time I'm in the theater," McFeely said in the video, "Or like a nervous shock, right?"

Endgame co-director Anthony Russo attests to the reaction, saying that he actually noticed the same thing.

"People laugh at that and I was always shocked by that," the filmmaker responds.

Could Marvel fans really be that cruel? Or were viewers just laughing because of Thor's little "I went for the head" line after he chops off Thanos' head?

We'd like to think that viewers were chuckling at the scene because of the latter. We'd also like to think that it's all nervous laughter. The crowd probably didn't expect Thanos head to roll off, so they nervously laugh at Thor's little quip about going after the Mad Titan's head.

Which do you think it is? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
