Avengers: Inifnity War Could Be The Longest Marvel Movie

A lot of people are very excited for the release of Avengers: Infinity War next year because it looks to be the culmination of over 10 years of Marvel movies. The movie is looking to be huge, and co-director Joe Russo says that it has potential to be the longest MCU film yet.

In an interview with Collider, Russo said:

"The current cut is over two and a half [hours]… Most of it's a movie you could show, but there's still a lot of work left to be done, I still have a couple of scenes that we haven't finished from Avengers 3 that I'm shooting in the next few months with my brother, and it's certainly gonna be a film that lives in the two and a half hour, two and a half hour-plus range."

Some people may think that going above 2-and-a-half hours could make the movie too long, but Russo believes that with a movie of this scale, the long runtime is justified.

"We have to, I mean it's a culmination event. We've gotta take 10 years of storytelling in this Marvel narrative experiment that's been going on since Iron Man, and we have to take all these disparate tones, disparate themes, motivations, and we have to pull them together in a unified narrative and write the final chapters of the book. There's no way you could do that with all these characters in under that running length."

I'm not really complaining if the movie would take that long. I mean, every other person would eagerly sit through 3 hours for a Lord of the Rings movie, and I think Infinity War should take the extra runtime if it really needed it. It's hard enough balancing character development with each of the heroes, and you also have to consider that Thanos and his comrades need development of their own.

Hopefully the Russo brothers have what it takes to deliver a good movie. Sure Joss Whedon may have been left broken after Age of Ultron, but with two heads working on this project, Infinity War may be the best Avengers film yet.
