Anyone who has been diligently following Marvel's slew of movies will know that the Big Bad coming in Avengers: Infinity War is none other than Thanos. And while we're not yet privy to the entire storyline from which it will be hinged on, it appears that the MCU version will still rely on the original material.
In an interview with Collider, Marvel boss Kevin Feige did hint this:
"[His motives] will be similar to what they were in the Infinity Gauntlet in various ways. I guess that's all I can say about that."
Now here's where it gets interesting. The comics, called Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos's main goal was to, get this, impress Death. So what he does is collect the six Infinity Stones (or Gems) to put on his left glove and give him insane power. Spoiler alert: almost everyone dies after Thanos pretty much toys with the idea of them winning.
Now that's a pretty far-off treatment, given what we've seen so far in the MCU. Coming off from Captain America: Civil War, which seems to have solved Marvel's issues with just power-hungry villains, introducing a love-struck one may be that hit-or-miss choice.
Plus, we also have the issue of who Death will be in the MCU. Hela does seem to be a great choice, though we have to see how that will play out in Thor: Ragnarok. But this is definitely an interesting turn, and one that I think would really hit Infinity War as MCU's turning point.
Avengers: Infinity War will be out in theaters on May 2018, with the untitled sequel coming the year after.
