Avengers Infinity War: Russo Brothers Comment on Silver Surfer Rumors

With the Marvel Cosmic Universe getting more and more fleshed out, there have been rumors coming out that we might get to see characters like Galactus and Silver Surfer pop up in either Avengers 3 or 4. Directors the Russo Brothers, however, think that it will be a while before we get to see the characters onscreen again.

Talking to Yahoo! Movies, Joe Russo points out:

"I don't think we own Silver Surfer… But it's fan-wish fulfillment and, you know, if this Disney-Fox deal goes through there's going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true."

The directors, however, seem positive that we'll be getting more changes in the MCU down the line. Anthony Russo assures:

"It's hard to second guess, you know, part of the beauty of these movies is that there are so many different directions that you can go. There are so many different choices you can make and I think that's part of the fun of the process for Joe and I, in those early days, feeling out where we want to go with the movie, sitting with Marcus and McFeely and the writers, talking through all the possibilities, and once you centre on a road, just running with it. I don't think we have any regrets about the choices we've made I think we're very happy with it, but yeah, the material is infinitely malleable."

With the Watchers appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a lot of fans were wondering about the possibility of seeing more cosmic characters in the MCU. The great thing about the Fox deal was, though Fox owned exclusive characters like Uatu and Silver Surfer, the MCU was still free to use every species within the comics.

It also helped fuel the fan speculation that Kevin Feige had once offered that Fox keep Daredevil so the MCU could use Galactus and the Surfer. The deal didn't go down then, but when the MCU finally acquires the missing members of its family, then fans are sure to rejoice.

Avengers: Infinity War comes out April 27.
