Avengers Infinity War: Karen Gillian had No Idea that Nebula Would End Up being so Important

Karen Gillian's Nebula became a reluctant member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in Vol. 2, and she'll be joining their ranks along with the Avengers in Infinity War. Gillian talks about how much her character has grown over the years and says she didn't expect Nebula to be so important to the story.

Talking to ScreenRant, Gillian says:

"I had no idea that this was where the character was going. I genuinely signed onto the role thinking it was eight days of filming and then I was going to die in the first Guardians. Three movies later and there's three more to come out it's, like, crazy.

It's funny because I read the Infinity Gauntlet, which is what the new Avengers films are based on, as research for my character because it's her sort of biggest moment within the Marvel comic book world, and then to find out they're making a double-bill feature based on that, I was just so excited actually because Nebula gets some really cool stuff."

Based on GOTG Vol. 2, Nebula was the only one member who was still out to find and destroy Thanos. Seeing that's what everyone will want to do come Infinity War, it feels like Nebula will be the one with the most personal stakes when it comes to the mission.

Though kind of a generic villain in the first film, I really enjoyed how James Gunn wrote Nebula's character for Vol. 2. It's even amazing that her conflict with Gamora can come out as relatable for people in the audience with siblings.

Nebula returns onscreen in Avengers: Infinity War on April 27.
