Avengers: Endgame Gets Beat As The Biggest Per-Theater Average Movie By Indie Darling

Avengers: Endgame might be one of the biggest and most successful films of the year, but it seems like the second entry in Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie just lost its title as the film with the highest per-theater debut average.

According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, indie darling The Farewell just managed to bring in $351,300 from some four theatres during its Friday opening. This brings the average to about $87,833 per theater, some $10,000 more than the average made by Endgame.

Opening last April, Marvel's sequel to Avengers: Infinity War brought in more than $357 million from 4,662 cinemas, bringing the film to an average of $76,601 per theater.

It might come as a surprise to see Endgame getting beat by a small film, but it seems like The Farewell managed to do very, very well in just four cinemas. For those who aren't familiar with the movie, The Farewell is a biographical Asian-led dramedy movie by Lulu Wang that's being headlined by Awkwafina.

The film has been a major critical hit with a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. For those curious about the movie's story, The Farewell is a film which focuses on a woman named Billi who returns to China after learning that her grandmother's been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, something that's been kept a secret from the matriarch.

Of course, The Farewell doesn't beat Endgame in any other box office measure. Right now, the film is set to surpass Avatar to become the highest-grossing film in cinematic history.

Avengers: Endgame is currently screening in cinemas.
