Avatar 2 Looking to Break Boundaries with 3D Glasses-Free Showing

It looks like James Cameron's long wait between the sequels of his masterpiece Avatar isn't just spent idly about.

If a new report proves to be true, then it's possible that fans can view Avatar 2 with state-of-the-art 3D experience; that is, glasses-free!

According to Inside the Magic, Lightstorm Entertainment, Cameron's own company, has reportedly renewed a collaboration with Christie Digital for high-tech and immersive cinematic experience. This collaboration will supposedly bring RGB laser projection systems which can then be used in the Avatar sequels.

The new system seems to be gearing towards a 3D cinematic experience sans the 3D glasses. That's because the technology makes use of RGB laser projection that brings bright images at high frame rates, so that the images are so crisp and high-res, they become 3D when you watch it even without the glasses.

Apparently, the only thing that Christie Digital would need is the data that will be obtained if the technology is used there:

"In addition to the latest in projection technologies, Christie is fully committed to sharing our ongoing research and development efforts, including product roadmaps, with our co-visionary, Lightstorm, so that its productions will repeat the awe-inspiring success of Avatar in the years to come."

In theory, this would definitely be a nice way to progress audience's expectations for Avatar. A glasses-free experience would definitely bring a new level of immersion. At the same time, it suggests an equally perplexing logistics consideration. Of course, if Cameron and his team can fix that, then this would definitely be an experience worth noting.

Avatar is scheduled for four sequels, set to release during the holiday seasons of 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025.
