Ava DuVernay Received New Gods Directing Job By Asking For It

DC Comics and Jack Kirby fans were thrilled when a New Gods movie was announced. The fact that A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay was given the job also caused some excitement since she has proven to have an eye for visual flair, something that will be important for this series.

So how did she get the job? According to a Twitter Q and A hosted by DuVernay, it was because she asked DC if she could direct it. And they said yes, which is interesting news, to say the least.

If true, this could be the first time we've heard of a director approaching a studio for a project when it is usually vice-versa. This isn't a first time a studio has hired a fan of the source material though since James Gunn has previously stated that he loved Danny Abnett and Andy Lanning's run on Guardians of the Galaxy.

Her hiring for the project is an interesting move since Warner Bros. is hoping to rebrand their future DCEU movies after Justice League flopped at the box office. The New Gods have been fan-favorites for a long time and seeing what DuVernay can do with characters like Darkseid, Orion, Big Barda, and Mister Miracle should pique the interest of many.

No release date for New Gods has been announced.
