Attack on Titan Season 2 Director Shares Intense Feelings & Interesting Character Focus

With the second season of Attack on Titan basically having us on the ropes with excitement, director Tetsurou Araki shares a few things that he and the team have been up to before and during production.

ANIPLUS Asia released a new interview video, seen below, sees the director talking about the production, including his favorite parts and some next steps in terms of character treatment for this new season.

For starters, Araki himself is an avid reader of Attack on Titan the manga version. he shares that he had been following the story and a specific character's storyline had him in an intense suspense state.

"There was a scene I really loved, and I really wanted to adapt it soon heck. Even a little after Season 1 ended, when Season 2 production was still a way away, I kept thinking I wanted to hurry up and storyboard it. Never thought it'd take four years. It took unexpectedly long but I' really happy I finally got to do it."

Araki does share that the manga alone was able to give him some intense feelings when following the stories. If that's his reaction for a manga, imagine how it would feel watching the anime series.

I've stopped reading the manga in the hopes that the anime will be renewed for another season. There's something about having the story animated and voiced that completes the feeling—and I want that feeling of being surprised doubled with an anime.

More importantly, he also touched on the fact that the focus for the second season was on the characters who will have surprising roles and importance apart from the main three, the bigwigs of the Survey Corps, and the secondary character troops.

"Character-wise, we have some that never really got the spotlight, like Ymir or Krista, and we get a close look into them now. that's going to be a big highlight. We discussed the dramatic points of hose parts a lot with Isayama-san, and managed to delve even deeper into them."

Those who are familiar with the more recent chapters of Attack on Titan would know that a lot of Eren Jaeger's classmate in the squad are hiding their own secrets—and Attack on Titan season 2 may open particular Pandora's box.

Attack on Titan will premiere its second season on April 1.
