Are Star Wars Fans More Excited For Donald Glover’s Lando Than Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo?

Solo: A Star Wars Story might be a spinoff meant for Alden Ehrenreich's young Han Solo, but it seems like all eyes are on Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian instead.

Lando's impeccable charm and swagger made him an easy fan-favorite when he debuted in Star Wars: Episode V – Empire Strikes Back. Now it looks like the debonair Lando's managed to steal the spotlight from Han in his very own Star Wars spinoff.

According to The USA Today, the biggest applaud audiences had during the world premiere of Solo in Hollywood was when Glover's Lando Calrissian first appeared forty-five minutes into the movie.

"The movie is called Solo, but people have really focused on Lando since the first trailer dropped," African American Film Critics Association co-founder Shawn Edwards said. "Lando is the man!"

But that's not all. Lando's also got children's attention. The publication also writes that Fandango Fanshop has just recently reported that merchandise for Lando has actually moved at twice the speed of merchandise for Han before the film's premiere.

Though it might be a bit shocking to see the title character getting beat by someone else in his own film, we understand the excitement over Lando. Glover is currently at the center of pop culture, gaining stardom in music as Childish Gambino and earning a great acting reputation in films like Spider-Man: Homecoming and television shows like Atlanta and Community.

Sure there might have been a lot of praise of Hail Caesar! Actor Alden Ehrenreich's rendition of Han, but it's hard to beat the offscreen popularity of Glover, especially after his politically charged music video for his recent release, This is America.
