Archie Comics Is Rebooting Dick Tracy

Dick Tracy is coming back to the world of comic books, this time under the publication of Archie Comics. The brand has been on a roll lately, thanks to big hits like Mark Waid's Archie reboot, the horror-filled Afterlife with Archie and CW's popular show Riverdale. Rebooting the famous detective in comic book form is interesting, to say the least, and it will be fun to see what the publisher has in store for the character.

Announced by The Hollywood Reporter, the monthly series will launch next April and will be co-written by Archie Comics co-President Alex Segura and Michael Moreci of Hoax Hunters and Roche Limit fame. Thomas Pitilli, known for providing the covers of The Archies and Riverdale's tie-in comic, will be illustrating the series.

Segura had plenty of nice things to say about working on the series, claiming that it is a dream come true for him:

"I have vivid memories of being completely obsessed with Dick Tracy as a kid when the movie hit, and that sent me back to explore the amazing Chester Gould strips up through Max Allan Collins' superb work and the current, excellent dailies by Mike Curtis and Joe Staton. In my eyes, Tracy is an iconic character on par with Batman and Superman, and it makes perfect sense for another 75-year- old, iconic brand in Archie to be bringing him back to monthly comics."

Co-writer Moreci also expressed excitement for working on the series:

"To have an opportunity to contribute to this tremendous legacy is an honor and a thrill, and I'm so lucky to be working with Alex, Tom and Archie. Alex is a friend and a great writer, and Tom is an artist of boundless talent. I think we're doing something special here, and I can't wait to take readers on a fun, wild ride for, hopefully, years to come."

Dick Tracy #1 will hit comic stores on April 11.
