Ant-Man and The Wasp: Peyton Reed Discusses the Shocking Mid-Credits Scene

Ant-Man and The Wasp was the palate cleanser fans needed after Avengers: Infinity War. It was funny, had some interesting action sequences, and even some decent character moments. This is why fans were so shocked to see the mid-credits sequence change all that, whilst also setting up some plot points that we will likely see in the fourth Avengers film.

SPOILERS FOR ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

During a quick trip to the Quantum Realm to help out Ghost, Hope Van Dyne, her mother Janet, and father Hank Pym were killed by Thanos finger snap. Ant-Man is still stuck in the Quantum Realm, having no idea what happened to his teammates. Director Peyton Reed decided to talk about making the scene in Uproxx.

Because of how Ant-Man and The Wasp was structured, Reed was hoping that audiences would be so entertained by the movie that they would forget about any tie-in to Thanos. It was an effective move however since audiences that saw the scene was saddened by what the Mad Titan did since the Van Dyne-Pym family just got back together.

"The thing that really appealed to us, was because it was a thing the whole way through of how are we going to deal with this issue [from] Infinity War, and it occurred to us we were going to do it in an Ant-Man and the Wasp way. Which was to tell our story, make it self-contained, and make the ending of the movie with everything wrapped up in such a neat bow at the end of the movie. And even in the scene, we introduce all of these elements all at once to the audience. It's like, oh, this is the first time I've seen Janet in street clothes. And they are in a parking lot? And there's Luis' van? And Scott in the suit and he's going to the quantum realm in a shrunken tunnel? So everyone's mind is on trying to make sense of the stuff at hand, so that hopefully the thing we were ultimately doing wasn't immediately occurring to them."

It seems like the movie is gearing up to give Scott Lang a major role for the fourth Avengers film. The fact that they mention time travel opens up plenty of possibilities for what happens after the Infinity War.

Ant-Man and The Wasp might still be showing.
