Announce Trailer for Mortal Shell is the Pure Nightmare Fuel

With Dark Souls ushering in a new genre of games that have been dubbed ‘Soulslike', Playstack and Cold Symmetry have dropped the announce trailer for what looks to be the next big horror RPG game, Mortal Shell.

Here's the official description (via IGN):

"Awakening as an empty vessel, you will enter into a shattered and twisted world where the remains of humanity wither and rot. Implored to do the bidding of the mysterious "Dark Father", you must traverse this tattered landscape and track down hidden sanctums of devout followers. There, in Mortal Shell's most hallowed grounds, you must overcome formidable foes and harvest the sacred glands. You won't be truly alone when the dead litter your path: Scattered across this land are the remnant anima of lost warriors who can be inhabited to gain their unique abilities and knowledge of weapons. The Dark Father is desperate for you to complete your task — but to what end?"

Like you can expect from any Soulslike game, Mortal Shell promises an expansive world with punishing gameplay that is sure to have gamers scratching at their heads in frustration. There is also a heavy emphasis of huge bosses and a unique gameplay mechanic that allows players to take over bodies of fallen enemies—appropriate for a game titled Mortal Shell.

If anything, the game looks fantastic, and it's sure to catch the interest of any Soulslike game enthusiast. Mortal Shell is expected to release sometime this year, but we don't know exactly when; hopefully sooner, since a lot of us are going to be staying in quarantine and playing video games.

No release date has been set for Mortal Shell, but the game is expected to be playable for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
