This weekend saw the reveal of several big trailers, and one of them was for Sony's animated Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. With the implication that it will cover several dimensions, a lot of people are wondering if the movie would also connect with the MCU's Tom Holland Spidey, but it seems that it won't.
During a panel at the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil (via Collider), it was confirmed that this movie won't have any connections with the MCU. Seeing that it's said to introduce us to the "Spider-verse," it wouldn't make sense that the MCU won't have any connection at all.
Maybe for now, we're just getting a movie that stands on its own and is saving a connection to the MCU at a later release. After all, Miles Morales exists in the MCU Spider-verse as well—he's the nephew Donald Glover's character was talking about.
For now, we still don't have a full story for Into the Spider-Verse, so we'll just have to wait for more info to come out. I'd love to see some alternate Spider-people make an appearance like Spider-Gwen or even the classic animated Spider-Man. Who knows?
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse comes out Dec. 14, 2018.
