American Gods: New Image Of Gillian Anderson As The God Of Media

With all the promotion for Starz's American Gods focused on the characters of Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle, you'd think that they'd release more material for Gillian Anderson's character, the goddess of Media. A new image of her has been released, and has her standing next to Technical Boy (Bruce Langley) and a bunch of creepy, faceless men.

In the book, Media didn't really have a permanent form. Instead, she would communicate to the main character, Shadow, via the actors on the TV set. When she first interacts with Shadow, she takes the form of Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy and tries to seduce him by asking him if he wants to see Lucy's breasts.

I'm very excited to see how Bryan Fuller will bring this show to life. The book was chockfull of imagery that would've been hard to bring onscreen, but seeing how visually dynamic Hannibal was, I'm sure American Gods will be a TV marvel.

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday's bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It's a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they've lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

American Gods premieres on Sunday, April 30 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
