American Gods' Ian McShane Will Play Hellboy’s Adoptive Father In Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen

Like it or not, Hellboy is getting an R-rated reboot with Stranger Things' David Harbour filling in the Right Hand of Doom that was initially Ron Perlman's. With a reboot comes new cast members for classic characters, and the movie has just found someone to play Hellboy's adoptive father, Professor Broom.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, veteran actor Ian McShane will be playing Broom, and he'll be playing the character that John Hurt introduced to audiences back in 2004. There are still no specifics on how much of the movie McShane will be in, but it's possible that his character will be kept alive this time around. I can see Prof. Broom easily filling in the role of Jeffrey Tambor's character from the del Toro Hellboy in this film; it's a two birds, one stone situation.

The movie is still on full pre-production gear, so we should expect announcements for casting of Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien to come out soon. Personally, I think Doug Jones was absolutely perfect at playing Abe, but even with his natural ability to play otherworldly characters, director Neil Marshall might want to cast someone else in the role to make sure to everyone that this movie is in fact, a reboot.

As for story we still have no official synopsis, but Hellboy is said to be going against a medieval sorceress that—wouldn't you know it—wants to destroy humankind.

No official release date has been announced for Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, but production is said to begin next month.
