On Thursday, Wizards of the Coast officially revealed the first Magic: The Gathering cards from the upcoming magical school-themed set, Strixhaven: School of Mages. In addition to the five Command cards associated to each of the five colleges, the publisher also introduced the five colleges of the most elite university in Magic's Multiverse as well as the Mystical Archive, a separate set of alternate-art cards associated with Strixhaven.

The Mystical Archive is similar to Kaladesh's Masterpiece Series but the cards appear more frequently in the boosters of the main set. The Mystical Archive includes 63 of the most famous instants and sorceries of all time in specially designed showcase frames and at all rarities. The cards will only be legal in formats that they are already legal in. However, the cards may be used in Limited formats like Booster Draft and Sealed.

Wizards has only revealed six unique Mystical Archive cards: Opt, Demonic Tutor, and Swords to Plowshares, and the three alternate-art Japanese Mystical Archives of the same spells but with different art. Check them out:

And here are the Japanese alternate-art Mystical Arhives that you can find in Strixhaven: School of Mages booster packs:

These Mystical Archive cards look stunning, especially the Japanese versions. I'm excited to see what the other Mystical Archive cards will be. Be sure to check out all the cards from Strixhaven: School of Mages revealed so far in the MTGRocks.com spoiler section.
