Jennifer Connelly has joined the upcoming Alita: Battle Angel movie, THRreports. A few other cast members are confirmed as well. The live-action movie will adapt the well known manga Battle Angel Alita.

Alita: Battle Angel tells the story of a female cyborg in the 26th century. She becomes a bounty hunter after she is discovered in a scrapyard with no memories. James Cameron (Terminator, Avatar) will be directing the movie.

Conelly will be playing an unknown villain. Connelly won an Oscar for her role in the film A Beautiful Mind. She also played Betty Ross in the 2003 Hulk movie.

Other people on the call sheet are Christoph Waltz (known for Django Unchained), Mahershala Ali (known for House of Cards) and Ed Skrein (known for Deadpool). The movie is being filmed in texas. It will star Rosa Salazar as the titular Alita.

I'm still somewhat skeptical of this movie, given Hollywood's history of adapting anime and manga, but it looks like it's chugging along. What do you think of the casting? Any ideas which villain Connelly will play?

Alita: Battle Angel hits theatres July 20, 2018.
