Alien: Covenant Ripley-Daniels Connection is Not Happening

The very familiar vibe that Katherine Waterston's Daniels character in Alien: Covenant may have been the first clue. Thus a lot of people were suddenly talking about the possibility of how Sigourney Weaver's Ripley character could be related to the new powerful female in the new movie.

But no matter how much fans would want this particular connection established in Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien: Covenant, the director has made it clear: it's not happening. Speaking at SXSW (via Movieweb), Scott has shot down the rumor and theory before it can take too much of a life of its own.

"No. that was probably way back when. ‘Should she be the daughter of Ripley?' I said ‘no.' She's herself."

The statement does suggest the possibility that the director and the production behind the movie may have considered the possibility and potentially shot it down before any concrete action can be done.

Even though the goal of Alien: Covenant was to let the franchise find its roots in the kind of horror that was created by the original movie. The connection may not be the best way to go about it—let's trust director Scott on this one—because honestly, the trailers and teasers we've seen so far creeps so far under our skin only to break out (all those puns intended) and wreak havoc in our imaginations.

Alien: Covenant will be out in theaters on May 19. It stars Michael Fassbender, Waterston, Noomi Rapace, James Franco, Danny McBride, and Demian Bichir.
