Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Ming Na-Wen Stands Up Against Ghost in the Shell's Whitewashing

Earlier today, Paramount released the first image of Scarlett Johansson in costume as The Major in the upcoming live-action Ghost in the Shell movie. Ever since January 2015, when she was cast to play Motoko Kusunagi, The AKA Major, fans of the anime/manga cyberpunk franchise expressed their outrage for whitewshing the role. Fans even signed a petition for Johansson to be replaced.

Now, Macau-American actress Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) took to social media to express her frustration.

Although Hollywood is doing a better job with Asian reprsentation in recent years, it's casting decisions like this that remind us that they still have a long way to go. They should have chosen Rinko Kikuchi or Ming-Na Wen herself. I think either one of them could pull off a legit Major.

The film will be released on March 31, 2017.
