Aether Revolt’s Best 20 Common Cards in Limited Format

In a Limited Format, you don’t just jam everything you’ve got and call it a day. You need to create synergies with cards available from your pool, and just because you got a Mythic Rare like Tezzeret, the Schemer, it doesn’t mean you could win the game right away. Here are some of the common cards that help a deck win the game. Enjoy reading!

  1. Wrangle

A pretty efficient sideboard for red decks, stealing an opponent’s only creature while they are at a very critical life spells game over.

  2. Ghirapur Osprey

It’s a vanilla flyer, nothing else. But in a limited format, they are the ones inflicting the most damage your opponent. There’s not quite a lot cards that could prevent them from having an air strike. UW decks will probably include this one.

  3. Shipwreck Moray

It’s hard to deal with such an annoying blocker that has the option to kill most of your ground creatures. It’s highly preferred to be included in a blue-based energy deck to maximize its potential.

  4. Resourceful Return

This card is pretty good in limited as it can return a threat that has been destroyed with an upside of drawing a card if you control an Artifact. I am definitely playing one or two if I ever get it from the packs.

  5. Shock

As much as we want Lightning Bolt back, this is the next best thing we have that could deal damage to either a creature or player and any red deck will probably include it on their list.

  6. Leave in the Dust

There aren’t much cards in this set that could deal with an opposing Planeswalkers like Ajani or Tezzeret. Anyone playing blue should at least play one of it, side it out if you think your opponent isn’t that lucky to pull a Planeswalker.

  7. Chandra’s Revolution

It won’t be able to deal with most threats but it will be able to deal with flying creatures and deny a colored source of mana for a turn.

  8. Lifecraft Cavalry

It's still decent even if you are unable to trigger Revolt. It's a 4/4 trampler could still wreak havoc to your opponent. You might want to pair it with a few creatures with Fabricate to help you trigger Revolt, just attack with your little Servo tokens and hope at least one dies.

  9. Countless Gears Renegade

It’s definitely a good card, and it could come in early without the Revolt trigger, or it can come in later and be able to meet the requirement to maximize it. It pairs well with cards such as Implement of Improvement for an early turn two Revolt trigger.

  10. Ice Over

A card quite close to Claustrophobia but cost less and a litlle bit upgraded. The important thing that the card does is to enchant an Artifact which stops every vehicle your opponent controls.

  11. Cruel Finality

Black’s counterpart for Skywhaler’s Shot. It’s highly efficient early in the game but not on the later part where your opponent starts playing more than 3-toughness creatures Some combat tricks, however, might do the work and you still get a little value from it.

  12. Silkweaver Elite

I think this is the best green common card in Aether Revolt. You are most likely to face a lot of flying creatures and thopter creature tokens in limited and if you are able to put some counter to it, that would be great.

  13. Prey Upon

The set is not that heavy on high-powered creatures but if there isn’t much removal spell on your arsenal, it could still be of useful help. It might not be a premium removal like Fatal Push but it is decent enough if you can make it work.

  14. Hinterland Drake

It’s way better than most cheap flying creatures in Kaladesh and Aether Revolt. I don’t mind the downside of being unable to block artifact creatures, it will attack more often than block an attacking creature your opponent controls. This is the kind of card you want on your early turns when you’re playing blue and if left unanswered, might cost your opponent the game.

  15. Dawnfeather Eagle

A 3/3 flyer for 5 mana with an extra mini-Overrun ability is something you don’t want to miss on limited. With the mix of Kaladesh and Aether Revolt on limited, Servo creature tokens are created quite a lot due to the combined mechanics Fabricate and Revolt. I'm quite certain it won’t be that hard to maximize the card.

  16. Aether Chaser

A decent creature for two mana that most aggressive decks will probably include. A 2/1 first striker that could produce a Servo token is quite enough for that cost, could be greater on energy dedicated decks.

  17. Aether Poisoner

This card is probably not the best but still great at all times, playing it early means you’ll be able to attack with it and create a Servo token. A few turns later, it becomes a great blocker that could kill any creature except those that are indestructible.

  18. Caught in the Brights

I understand that this is not the kind of removal you want in a set where Vehicles are more likely to appear on any deck. You were able to prevent a creature from attacking or blocking but not on crewing a vehicle, that's the downside. The upside here is that you are also able to put some Vehicles on your deck, and if you were able to play a creature on turn one, a Vehicle on turn two, cast Caught in the Brights to a creature your opponent controls, crew your Vehicle and attack. Voila! You get to exile that creature permanently.

  19. Druid of the Cowl

A mana accelerator with a decent body that could stop a Servo creature token anytime, anywhere. It might not fit well with energy-based deck but it could ramp up your spells like Ajani Unyielding on a GW shell for one less turn and that’s pretty nasty on limited.

  20. Daring Demolition

It is slow, yes. It cost too much, yes. It doesn’t care what kind of creature it needs to deal with for as long as it is not indestructible or doesn’t have hexproof, definitely yes. Another upside is that it could destroy some difficult vehicles such as Skysovereign, Heart of Kiran or Smuggler’s Copter and a few others.
