Admiral Holdo’s Scene In Star Wars: The Last Jedi Came From A Classic Han Solo Moment

It looks like Admiral Holdo's sacrifice in Star Wars: The Last Jedi actually came from something that Han Solo once said in the original trilogy.

Those who've seen The Last Jedi might remember how Holdo saves the fleeing Resistance by turning the Raddus around and jumping into hyperspace straight through The Supremacy.

In an interview with Empire, writer/director Rian Johnson explains how he and his team came up with the climactic moment where Holdo saves the Resistance.

"I'm sure that a lot of fans had thought ever since Han was talking about if you don't get the calculations right you could go through a star... I always wanted to see what that would look like, and at some point, one of the guys at ILM hit upon that exposure idea of everything going silent. We were struggling with how do we make this visually impressive and when we hit on that, we loved it."

For those who don't remember, Han talks about the possibility of flying the Falcon straight through a star without the proper hyperspace calculations in A New Hope. The smuggler explains the complexities of flying through hyperspace after Luke complains about Han taking too long to jump into hyperspace while Imperial Forces come after them.

It's really cool how Johnson used an old Star Wars reference to create that epic moment in The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
