SXSW was a good gathering of fans of different fandoms. And this was felt even more for those who were at the panel for Game of Thrones. Onscreen sister duo Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams were there together with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
During that short time, they were able to tease a whole lot of information—some not so definitive, others surprisingly outright—and Watchers on the Wall was able to get a couple of these.
For starters, it's pretty clear that the entire production and cast are already geared towards the next season, even when we haven't even glimpsed what's coming for season seven. Already, writing assignments have been revealed. Weiss and Benioff were obviously going to be writing the bulk, but it seems that they will be coming in for the latter four. The premiere episode of season 8 will be written by Dave Hill, with the second slated for Bryan Cogman.
That puts the count for the episode to a definitive seven episodes. Another definitive tidbit, and a definite good news for some music fans, is that Ed Sheeran will be a guest star come season 7. And this seems to be solely as a surprise for the Arya actress.
As far as indefinite teasers go, Williams also player a little joke on some fans. When they asked why Turner's hair is still blond, she had joked that her onscreen sister was already dead.
This seems very farfetched for the time being, but that silence in the Game of Thrones panel didn't help. Finally, if you're wondering if the current showrunners will still have a hand in the planned spinoff, his only response is:
"Benioff says that HBO will probably d a spin-off show, but that he ‘looks forward to watching.'"
Well, we still have two seasons with the duo showrunners at play, so that's something to think about. In the meantime, Game of Thrones will be back on HBO this July.
