A New CG Animated Resident Evil Movie is Coming in 2017

A third feature-length CG animated Resident Evil film has been announced— following Degeneration in 2008 and Damnation in 2012 — and the first to replace Japanese animation house Digital Frontier with the Sega-owned Marza Animation Planet, which has previously developed a number of animated films based on the Sonic franchise. Not much details have been released so far, but we do know that it will be released in 2017, following the release of the live-action Resident Evil: Final Chapter.

The movie is being written by Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass) with Takanori Tsujimoto (Bushido Man) in the director's seat. Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who produced the first two CGI films, will return as an executive supervisor. He is joined by executive producer Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge).

I'm actually looking forward to see the CG animated film more than the live-aciton one. I enjoyed the previous two CG animated films. I thought they stayed truer to the game's spirit. I'm glad to hear that my second most favorite video game franchise is far from dead, though I'd like to see it evolve more instead of getting rebooted, as Capcom officially confirmed in August.
