A Closer Look at the Early Millennium Falcon from Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story promises to give us the lore for classic OT characters like Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, and we'll also be seeing just how Han got to win his ship the Millennium Falcon from Lando in the film. Weirdly enough, the Falcon looks very different from how we're used to seeing it, and here's a closer look at the new design.

The bit on the Falcon starts at 2:05:

Thanks to The Star Wars Show, we get to see a better look at the new Falcon which was said to be based on early designs of Ralph McQuarrie. A closer look actually makes us notice that the Falcon is a lot less "bumpy" then how we're used to seeing it, and the design actual makes it feel a lot more sleek and fast.

Aside from the blue paintjob on the Falcon, probably the most noticeable difference is the front piece which removes the trademark "prongs." The satellite dish also looks different, this time just pointing up from the ship.

At 5:06, we also get to meet Lucasfilm archivist Madlyn Burkert where she gives us a small tour of the archives, which includes a small replica of the new Falcon. Sure the movies don't use models to film sequences anymore, but it's cool to know that here's actually a small prop of the ship that was made and is sitting in the Lucasfilm archives.

Seeing how drastically different the Falcon looks in the OT, I'm wondering just how much it will be changing in Solo. Will we see it become the Falcon that it is by the end of the movie? Or do we have to piece that info together offscreen?

Whatever happens, I'm just hoping that Ron Howard gives us a satisfying answer.

Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25.
