4 Film Critic Organizations Disqualify Disney Films From End-of-The-Year Awards

Four major organizations of film critics have announced that they will disqualify all films made by Disney from consideration in their end-of-year awards, according to a statement sent to journalists (via Jason Bailey's Twitter page):

Last week, Disney criticized the Los Angeles Times for not meeting "basic journalistic standards" in reporting about Disneyland in Anaheim and decided to ban the newspaper's journalists from advance screenings of its films (which includes Star Wars and Marvel Studios films).

In the statement, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the National Society of Film Critics, and the Boston Society of Film Critics denounced the media giant's action and set up their own boycott against Disney.

According to the statement, Disney's actions are considered "antithetical to the principles of a free press and set a dangerous precedent in a time of already heightened hostility toward journalists."

Several film critics online have expressed that they're supporting the move by not attending screenings of Disney films.

Disney has become more powerful in the film industry thanks to their acquisition of Star Wars and Marvel. However, they still don't own X-men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and other Marvel franchises. Yesterday, it was reported that Disney has held discussions about purchasing 20th Century Fox.
