3 New Kong: Skull Island Clips: Samuel L. Jackson Messes with the Giant Monkey

Samuel L. Jackson has made a career of playing motherfrigging, badass characters who go in where angels fear to tread. His Nick Fury in Marvel's Avengers universe is just the latest example in one long star-making career. This time, in three new clips of Kong: Skull Island, he messes around with the giant ape himself.

The new clips are a short but intense introduction of the Vietnam-War soldiers to Kong after getting stranded in his secluded island home. They show their growing fear as they realize that they have just stepped into no man's land. Past King Kong movies tended to shroud the monster in darkness and fog before the big reveal. Here, clear blue skies and panoramic landscapes do the reverse: they make this ragtag team feel that something ominous is just around the corner.

One of the most "uh-oh" moments is when they encounter huge skeletons in "massgraves" that are said to belong to "Kong's parents." Reports of post-credit scenes also hint that there may be other monsters in the island showing their big, bad heads real soon.

While his soldiers are quaking in their boots, Samuel L. Jackson's squad leader isn't having any of it. He pushes his team to go into untrod land - and encounters something that is way above his pay grade.

Watch the clips below to see this confrontation - and view them in order.

Kong: Skull Island, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman, opens in cinemas on March 24, 2017.
