10 More Star Wars Films Rumored In The Works As J.J. Abrams Teases ‘Cool Things' In Discussion

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become one of the most successful movies in history with the film officially crossing the $2 billion mark at worldwide box office last month. Now, it's rumored that Disney will being ten more follow up films after The Force Awakens which include new titles and character spin-offs.

This latest bit of info comes after The Force Awakens director and executive producer J.J. Abrams spoke with L.A.-based The Sun about "cool things" under way for the franchise.

Abrams teased:

There are some really cool things being discussed. It is very exciting to see how it is being put together.

While the director characteristically kept any other details about the films under a tight lid, The Daily Mail reports that a source has backed up Abrams' statement and said Disney bosses have "a lot to 'think about" following the success of Episode VII.

The insider said:

So many characters' back-stories can now be brought to life. When these ideas came from George Lucas 40 years ago, technology was lagging behind.

Star Wars spin-off Rogue One is slated for release in December this year, while Episode VIII is due on the same month the following year. It would appear that Disney will be releasing a Star Wars film each year.

The news of 10 more Star Wars films to come doesn't really sound surprising since Disney already confirmed an infinite Marvel and Star Wars franchise in January. Hopefully, a yearly release won't compromise the quality of the episodes as well as standalone films in the saga.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16 while Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated for release on December 15, 2017. Episode IX is planned for a 2019 release and there's a Solo and a Boba Fett movie currently in the works. Further solo offerings include an Obi-Wan Kenobi film as well as a Mace Windu film.
