Who is Jakub Kurc from We Were the Lucky Ones?
Jakub Kurc (played by Amit Rahav) was one of the resilient Kurc siblings who did their best to survive during the Holocaust.
When Germany bombed Radom, everyone knew that their lives would forever change. They just didn't know how much change it would be.
Determined to survive, the Kurc men joined the Polish resistance so they could defend their homes and families. But when they were overturned by the Germans, they had no choice but to flee from their homes.
During this time, Jakub and his girlfriend, Bella (played by Eva Feiler), were still unmarried. Since Jewish traditions and ceremonies were prohibited at that time, the couple was unable to do it publicly.
As a result, they decided to get married secretly, in the basement of an abandoned building. Even though Bella's parents couldn't make it to the location, they supported her union with Jakub.
Thankfully, Bella's sister, Anna, steps in to show support to their union.

Is Jakub Based on a Real Person?
The source material of the Hulu TV series is a book of the same title written by Georgia Hunter. She based the novel on her family's real history as they struggled to survive during the Holocaust.
In her novel, the main character is Addy Kurc (played by Logan Lerman). This character was based on Hunter's real grandfather, Eddy, who later changed his name to Addy.
The other characters in the novel are based on his siblings and relatives. This means that Jakub was based on one of Hunter's grandfathers.

Who Plays Jakub Kurc in the Hulu Series?
The role of Jakub Kurc in We Were the Lucky Ones is played by Amit Rahav. He is an Israeli actor who started acting at the age of 21.
After his three-year service in the Israeli Defense Forces, Rahav proceeded to follow his dream. He started his acting career in different films and TV shows.
It wasn't until 2020 when Rahav starred in the Netflix mini-series, Unorthodox, which led to his winning the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Performance.
