What Happened to Thaddeus in the Fallout Series? Ghoul Theory Explained

Thaddeus, a Brotherhood of Steel’s Squire played by Johnny Pemberton made his first appearance in episode 3 of the Fallout series. Thaddeus is a pathetic little squire who worked on a farm; his role was to eat and poop food to feed the flies, which becomes protein for human food.

Thaddeus was deployed to be the squire of Knight Titus Maximus played by Aaron Clifton Moten. Thaddeus has been bullied several times by Maximus who happened to be a victim of bullying back in camp. After a while, they start to get along then Maximus reveals his identity to Thaddeus, and things get complicated. Thaddeus and Maximus get into a heated battle and his foot gets crushed. Thaddeus wanders off where he meets a creepy snake oil salesman who gives him a mystery serum that turns him into a Ghoul.

Ghouls are humans who survive a nuclear detonation and inhale a non-lethal dose of radiation. While radiation does play a massive part though, it isn't the only factor. There's a lot of different theories that get floated around in Fallout, whether it's the amount of radiation, the amount of time you're exposed to it, or is it a genetic thing. This radiation alters their biology and gives them instant tissue regeneration, and they're resistant to disease like cancer. While they do need to eat and sleep, they don't have to do it as often like normal humans thanks to their altered metabolism.

One of the most terrifying things about being a Ghoul is that 99.9% of them will become feral. Feral Ghouls are Ghouls whose brains have been rotted so much by radiation that they're practically wild animals.
