Muzan Kibutsuji is an incredibly powerful foe, but even with the manga having ended back in 2020, there are still some mysteries about him. In fact, some fans are still wondering why Muzan turned into a baby in the Demon Slayer finale.

In season 2, Muzan already displayed his transformation abilities by turning into a child, but his final baby transformation is unexpected.

While Muzan’s transformation skill may not be as talked about as his other abilities, it’s still a core part of why he was such a devilish villain in the series.

As the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji is the strongest demon in the world of Demon Slayer. Even though the Upper Rank Demons are incredibly powerful, Muzan can make short work of them if he deems them useless.

In the anime though, Muzan’s strength has only been shown a couple of times. The only power that he’s been shown to use multiple times is his ability to change his form.

His first appearance is perhaps his most iconic as he wore a formal tuxedo with a white fedora. Muzan’s other forms include a woman in a yukata and a sickly young child.

This power of his may not be as exciting as his combat abilities, but it’s still a key reason why he’s such an elusive foe for the Demon Slayer corps.

His transformations are convincing enough that even members of the Twelve Kizuki don’t initially recognize him in his various forms.

When in combat though, Muzan can make use of his transformations, as shown in the manga’s final arc.

Why Exactly Did Muzan Turn into a Baby in Demon Slayer’s Final Arc?

During the Demon Slayer manga’s climactic battle, Muzan transformed into a gigantic demonic baby. This happened in response to the sun rising while he was still facing the various demon slayers.

By the end, Muzan was destroyed in this form, though it’s not clear if this is his true form. What can be said for certain is that Muzan used his infant form as a defensive measure.

The manga did not explain exactly why Muzan became a giant demon baby, though this form may have the best defense against the sun owing to its size.

Its shape may also make it easier to defend from attacks as he absorbs Tanjiro Kamado. In that sense, it can also be argued that the baby form is symbolic of his efforts to transform Tanjiro into a demon as his final act.

This transformation is unexpected, though not too surprising given how he already transformed into a younger form back in season 2.

Muzan became a child in Demon Slayer season 2, but unlike his final form, this transformation of his is sickly seemingly defenseless.

Even in this body though, Muzan was still powerful, as shown when he berated Akaza for not defeating Tanjiro and the others. Essentially, this form of his was used more to sneak around alongside humans.
