Star Wars is now gearing up for the upcoming release of Tales of the Empire this weekend. And to give fans a glimpse of what they’re about to see, the franchise has dropped a new trailer featuring the return of Darth Vader on the small screen.

Tales of the Empire, the second season of the Tales series and a sequel to Tales of the Jedi, will bring the franchise’s villains to the forefront.

In addition to Darth Vader, it will also feature Nightsister Elsbeth Morgan, the former Jedi Barriss Offee, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and General Grievous.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire New Trailer Explored

The new Tales of the Empire trailer has shown the path to the dark side. It gives a deeper look at how one person can join the Galactic Empire and what being part of it means.

As the preview’s title suggests, only one thing motivates the big bad to be part of the Empire: Revenge.

The trailer begins with Fourth Sister looking for a Jedi. The scene then shifts to Barriss while the Grand Inquisitor says they can join them if they have proven themselves worthy.

Barriss begins to get into action as she trains to be an Inquisitor herself with the help of the Master of the Inquisitorius.

Grand Admiral Thrawn then takes the scene, asking Elsbeth why she sought Imperial favour.

“Revenge,” she declares.

As the fight against General Grievous begins, Darth Vader appears, and his iconic mechanical breathing can be heard in the background.

The trailer re-establishes the fallen Chosen One’s role in the franchise as he sits on what looks like a throne.

This scene appears to take place inside Fortress Inquisitorious, which was last seen in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The final shot focuses on the Dark Lord of the Sith’s profile, hinting at the bigger role he’s about to play in the new animated series.

Tales of the Empire will follow Morgan and Barriss's journey through two different timelines. The show will reveal the untold events in the lives of the featured characters.

Though their decision to join the Empire remains a mystery, the trailer suggests they are fueled by their desire to seek revenge.

The preview reveals Morgan decides to join the oppressive group after the Massacre of the Nightsisters when Count Dooku sent General Grievous to their planet of Dathomir in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

This tragic event fills Morgan with hatred, and she wants to avenge her people. She then forms an alliance with Thrawn and becomes his tool.

Alternatively, Barriss left the Jedi Order after bombing the Jedi Temple and blamed Ahsoka Tano for it.

The former Padawan falls to the dark of the side Force after seeing the faults of the Jedi Order and its involvement in the Clone Wars.

That said, fans will learn more about Barriss and Morgan’s stories when Tales of the Empire finally drops on Saturday, May 4, on Disney+.
