Wonder Woman Video Essay Says MCU Writers Should Re-Learn Emotional Sincerity

Sure Marvel may have the better cinematic universe however Wonder Woman has been turning the tide for the DC Extended Universe winning over fans and other viewers while continually succeeding at the global box office.

Now, a new video essay by YouTube Channel Just Write discusses what makes Wonder Woman so great and how Marvel ought to learn from the DCEU installment.

Though Marvel has produced really great comicbook movies with funny stories and great action sequences, Just Write suggests that newer MCU installments lack the emotional sincerity of Wonder Woman.

Making an example out of Doctor strange and Captain America: Civil War’s various points of Bathos where the directors undercut what’s supposed to be dramatic and emotional sequences with jokes, the channel  complains that Marvel movies have recently become “All Jokes, All The Time, No Matter The Cost” sacrificing emotional weight for levity.

Though Wonder Woman does have its comedic moments, the director Patty Jenkins allowed the character a lot of room for dramatic emotional sincerity.

While many fans have been defending the use of bathos in the airport scene in Civil War and other Marvel films, Marvel has seemingly been focusing more on levity than dramatic storytelling, making it difficult to emotionally connect to most of its characters.
