What Makes Cate Blanchett's Role In Thor: Ragnarok Different From Her Other Films

It’s a common thing for actors and actresses to explore different genres when their career hits a fork in the road. Well, Academy-Award winning actress Cate Blanchett is doing that exact thing with her role in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

The 46-year-old Australian actress’ move to the Marvel film will be a complete opposite of the movies she’s done so far. Although we’ve seen her as the powerful elf Queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings, that didn’t involve much action, which she says will be part of her character for Ragnarok.

Speaking to South Korea’s Moloive, Blanchett spoke about her role at the 6:18 mark:

I’ve only done action a couple of times, so it feels like…a departure is too strong a word, but it certainly seems like a change for me. So, I am looking forward to getting really fit, and wearing lycra, and hoping to earn a bit of street cred from my kids. I can’t wait.

Take a look at the interview below:

Blanchett doesn’t need any accolades. She’s already won two Oscars and nominated five times at the awards show. Apparently, her decision to appear in a superhero movie is to impress her four children, who I assume are all pretty floored that their mom is appearing in a superhero film.

The actress didn’t provide any further details about who she’s playing, but from what she said, rumors of her playing Hera, Queen of the underworld, could be true.

Directed by Taiki Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok is expected to feature Thor and Bruce Banner/The Hulk on a kind of road trip in Thor’s world. Exact details of the movie have yet to be revealed by Marvel.

Thor: Ragnarok is slated for release on November 3, 2017.
