Watch: An In-Depth Look In Designing Darth Vader's Castle

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a great movie, and it gave us a new look at one of the most iconic villains in cinema, Darth Vader. The movie gives us a glimpse of Vader’s castle in Mustafar, but did you know that the concept for Vader’s lair had been existent since the 80s?

The story starts at 2:32.

Lucasfilm’s Doug Chiang is one of the head honchos when it comes to the production, and he reveals that the concept for Vader’s lair had been present in Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art. It’s interesting to see that they tried to make use of Vader’s symbol, an upside-down red triangle, as a visual guide in the movie, and the shape of the door when we first see him is of his mouth.

Despite all the flak that the prequels get, I’m pretty happy that we got to return to Mustafar, the place where everything changed between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Rumors have suggested that we’ll actually be revisiting Vader’s castle in The Last Jedi, and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) will be having a complete costume overhaul after his visit to his grandfather’s temple.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out on Dec. 15.
