Video Explains Why Jace, The Mind Sculptor is The Boogeyman of Magic: The Gathering

The Boogeyman of Magic: The Gathering is back! 

Yep, the dreaded Jace, The Mind Sculptor has been unbanned in Modern format. One of the most overpowered Magic cards ever printed is back to haunt your dreams, and it's easy to see why many players won't be glad to see him emerge from the shadows. Though it isn't surprising: the revelation that Jace would be reprinted in Masters 25 this March foreshadowed his return. But why was he considered "The Boogeyman of Magic"? 

Just in case you're not familiar with the history of one of the most renown cards of Magic: The Gathering, this Rhystic Studies video from The Magic Man Sam shows us why Jace, the Mind Sculptor is the "Boogeyman of Magic: The Gathering." It gives us a look at the time Magic pro player Patrick Chapin predicted his dominance in Standard format, which started to show when Brian Kibler introduced the new deck that utilizes Jace called "Caw-Go". From there, as new cards were added to the Standard pool, the deck that used JTMS, Stoneforge Mystic, Batterskull, and the sword Equipment cards became so dominant in the format, that all eight decks in the Top 8 of Grand Prix Dallas in 2011 had four copies of JTMS. The Boogeyman had to be stopped, so he was banned in Standard along with Stoneforge Mystic. Apparently, not everyone realized how overpowered JTMS was when he was first introduced in Worldwake. 

The video also talks about the depth of Jace's character by quoting Magic story expert Cary Thomas. There's also "Jace Fatigue", the common complaint that Wizards of the Coast is obsessed with using Jace as an icon for their brand. Love him or hate him, I think most of us could agree that he'll always be the Boogeyman of Magic.
