The Greatest Showman Honest Trailer: P.T. Barnum was a Terrible Person in Real-Life

Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman came out as one of the most successful musicals of last year, but was the movie really the ‘greatest’? Screen Junkies disagrees with their Honest Trailer for the musical about real-life con-man P.T. Barnum.

In an age where average comic book movies make tons of money and average sequels rake in the dough, theater nerds finally get something average to blow their wads on too—The Greatest Showman

Though the movie has admittedly great songs, there were probably some people who took issue with how inaccurate Barnum was portrayed in the film. The trailer even makes up some short musical snippets revealing the ugly truth about his story. Then again, that’s the Hollywood game when it comes to stories ‘based on real life’—drama trumps authenticity.

If anything, fans can still enjoy the album which has apparently gone platinum. Plus, the musical numbers are still great to watch. Just keep in mind that the Barnum in the film is not like Barnum in real-life—an exploitative conman who did some terrible things to some poor people.

The Greatest Showman is now available for home video.
